The Department of Jewish Studies welcomes Dr. Vered Weiss as a lecturer in Israel Studies and Israel Institute Visiting Scholar in 2019–2021.

After completing her B.A. in Comparative and English Literature at Tel Aviv University, Dr. Weiss earned an M.A. in Comparative and World Literature from San Francisco State University, followed by a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Kent, Canterbury. Dr. Weiss proceeded to join the Program in Jewish Culture and Society at the University of Illinois as a postdoctoral research associate. Subsequently, Dr. Weiss worked as adjunct lecturer at The Department of Multidisciplinary Studies at Sapir Academic College, Israel. Now, Dr. Weiss is joining the Department of Jewish Studies at San Francisco State University as lecturer in Israel Studies and Israel Institute Visiting Scholar. Dr. Weiss’ fields of interest include Israeli and British literature and culture, Gothic, horror, and fantasy.

In fall 2019, Dr. Weiss will teach courses on Jerusalem and on Modern Israeli Literature. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Weiss back to SF State!
